Christmas 2016

Because of our Lord Jesus Christ, we live at peace with God...
a hope that will never disappoint us. All of this happens because
God has given us the Holy Spirit, who fills our hearts with his love.
Romans 5:1-5 CEV

A New Start

We first visited Cambodia in January of 2002, joining OMF in June later that year. Since then we've had two more children, lived and ministered in Cambodia, and have emerged far different than when we started. Different in a good way. This January marks another new season of our lives. I apologize I haven't gotten around to revising our blog, but did want to indicate that we're back in America though our hearts are still in Cambodia.

Worth Every Drop

Some of those present were saying…
to one another, “Why this waste of perfume?”
Mark 14:4 (CEV)

Now that we’re back, some have asked us if the last thirteen years of walking in missions was worth it. Was it worth giving up our careers and home, our friendships and family times? Was it worth the challenges of a new language and culture, the hardships, going-withouts and sickness? Was it worth the financial sacrifices and hours of prayer given by so many of you who have journeyed with us? While we could never quantify the “cost” of our time in Cambodia, I could certainly answer the question.

Finding Water

He is like a tree
planted by streams of water

that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
Psalm 1:3
I still remember memorizing the first chapter of Psalms in Sunday School. Of course, in the King James version and with the life experience of a 10-year old. But my thoughts have been brought back to this image repeatedly during our time in the US. We know we need to be like stable and strong trees to make this transition well. And what we’ve been finding is that our time in Cambodia has prepared us well for this. Our times of praying, studying the Bible and learning to depend on God were like slow-growing roots finding their way deeper and deeper into the ground. It has given us something to hold on to.

Over the Years

Delighting to share not only the gospel
but our very lives as well.
1 Thessalonians 2:8

That’s been our motto for the past twelve years – sharing our lives the best we could with whomever God placed in our path. But as much as we thought we’d “rub off” on those around us, God’s used them to change us and help us grow as people and in our faith. We came to be a blessing but it’s we who have been so deeply blessed!
